Getting Started

OSCAR-5

Where do I start

The OSCAR-5 system is available under a number of licensing models for both commercial, research and academic use, but does require a license in order to download and install. No free trial version is currently available. Please start by sending us an email to oscar5@necsa.co.za to get the ball rolling.

In order to get a better understanding of the system and its general capabilities, you can also look at some overview presentations of OSCAR-5.

You are welcome to look through the tutorials in the Training section, to get a feel of how the system works, and what capabilities it offers. We are also more than willing to prepare a virtual demo for potential users.

If you are interested in more detail, you can have a look at the top level OSCAR-5 documentation of the system.

How to install the system

After setting up a license agreement to match your needs, OSCAR-5 can be installed in a manner of different configurations. The system can be installed on Windows, Linux or MacOS, and types of installations range from pre-packaged static binary distributions to full development versions with direct access to relevant repositories (depending on your license agreement). More details on these options are available in the installation manual. The manual also indicates a few simple tests to do to confirm that the installation was successful.

What to do after installation

After installing the software, it would be a good idea to work through the first three tutorials, as listed in the Training section. These would give you a good idea of how the system works, and check whether all sub-codes are working as expected.
