During the period of 1 – 5 September 2025, the OSCAR team hosted an OSCAR-5 introductory training workshop, at Pelindaba, South Africa. Participants included Necsa staff and students, as well as delegates from the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) who attended virtually.
This workshop started with an introduction to Python concepts and basic reactor analysis theory. This was followed by an overview of the OSCAR-5 reactor analysis platform and typical applications for the code system. The remainder of the workshop was spent on hands-on training for building reactor models in OSCAR-5, and running calculations such as snap-shot flux and control rod worth calculations as well as core-follow analysis for a SAFARI-1 reactor cycle.
